The Multi-function Room

It’s new project time peeps. And i’m back at a property i’ve worked in a couple of times before. Remember these projects? Sherwood Forest And this one too… The Magnetic Playroom Both in the same house with the same lovely client and i’m back again, this time for  a bedroom/home office re-design. A nice chunky project indeed. It’s a good sized room at 3.5m x 4.5m, but it needs to work hard as i’ve been given a rather complicated brief. The room needs to fit double bed with storage (with space to run around easily) double wardrobe (more storage) chest of drawers (extra storage) large desk with space for two screens and closed storage for files etc. space for a TV (meaning this room will have 3 screens to try and make look good. Ack) It’s fair to say there’s not much staying in this space, so we’ve got a lot to source as well as a lot of remedial work to do before we get to any of the fun stuff. Oh I tell a …

The Shelfie

A few days ago I introduced you to my home office update, well my new DIY desk to be precise. I absolutely loved working in here last week but there were some bits that still needed sorting. Some of which involved a drill. So I smiled sweetly at my OH and thankfully, he took the hint. As you can see above, a new radiator has been fitted which i’m a little too excited about. Radiators are always so damn ugly, but I adore the look of column radiators. So every time we get around to updating a radiator, I get lil butterflies. (Weirdo). I keep sticking my head under my desk for a peek and temp test. Aaanywaaaay…. We’ve also finally fitted the shelf that has been waiting in its packet all week. I wanted something slimline, minimal, unobtrusive and just big enough to keep all of the gubbins I need close by without it crowding up my desktop. After all, my desktop is far too sexy to be covered with all my shizzle. The Duraline photo shelf …

I Can’t Decide

Earlier this year I wrote a post about my Geometric Desk Top. It was part of a mission to kit myself out with a home office without spending any (hardly any) money. I had loads of stuff sitting in the loft going unloved. In a couple of days I ended up with the space above. I was pretty chuffed with myself. But then as ever, I started getting itchy fingers and the shelf was annoying me. Should it be black? I wrote about possibly painting it. Then that stuck in my head. And then it stayed there for a while, hovering. And yesterday whilst I was messing about with my copper enamel spray paint, I just decided to get on with it and see what happened. And here it is. I’m honestly unsure. I’ve changed the picture as those white frames were not sitting pretty in my eyes (they were a quick bit of wall entertainment just because they were there at the time). This huge poster by Street Artist, Erosie is from this year’s Ikea …

Ikea Bank Holiday

Just in time for the bank holiday trip to Ikea… a little roundup of my favourite pieces from Ikea for SS 2015. Sometimes you just miss the best bits because you’re frantically chasing the wrong child around the store, or wanting to just get to the cafe for your meatballs and cranberry sauce. So here are my faves: ARKELSTORP Desk, black – £135 Black and pine. Winning! KNAGGLIG Storage Box, pine – from £5 Stackable storage. Can’t have too much. Get some. NIPPRIG 2015 Room divider, black – £39 I’ve always wanted a room divide… just need to get a larger house with a big enough room to divide first. Am on it. Ikea are being sneaky sneaky and not showing the table and bench seating on their UK site just yet. Or the matching coffee and side table you can see in the background shot. But they MUST be arriving soon. I like a nice splayed leg I do! UPDATE – It’s the LISABO and it’s £120. Wowzers. Nice price for an ash veneer dining table eh? DALSHULT …

My MCM Geometric Desk

Behold. My new delicious work space. I have managed to design and produce this space with a few left over items from my capacious loft space, coupled in with a new lamp and Eames Eiffel chair as a treat from me to me. Thank you me! See that crazy mid-century modern inspired geometric desk top? “Yes, Karen we see it. It’s hard not to” Well that was about to get kicked to the kerb **finger snap**. A bit of old furniture board from a super ugly old flat pack desk. It’s actually the perfect size for my tiny office space. I don’t have clients visit at home and i’m only little. So for me, this space is pretty much bob on. Here is how it looked before: The offending piece of furniture board. There were bits of the “birch effect” foil surface missing. Some idiot had done their Christmas selotaping and used the edge of the desk as a tape holder. Face-palm! It all started when I wanted a rug. A black and white geometric …
