An Eclectic Living Room – Final Reveal

Ages ago, back in April, I introduced you to some of the projects I was working on. I can’t always feature every project on the blog. Not because I don’t want to, but time doesn’t always allow me to. Well, that…. and an angry dog that didn’t really like me being in the room I needed to work in. This is the room, on my first visit: It had a great log burner, original chimney breast and stripped floorboards, big bay window and some lovely pieces of furniture. The homeowner’s love of white, vintage finds and Scandi design (baskets) was more than apparent. But she just wasn’t feeling this space at all and couldn’t quite work out why. It’s a north facing room, so doesn’t get the best light. Flat white and grey weren’t doing this space any favours. Their plan was to keep it minimal. But it kinda just felt a bit cold and unfinished. The two seating areas felt disconnected and the L shaped sofa was awkward in the space. So how did I make …

You’ll never guess….

Believe it or not, some people don’t like shopping for furniture or home decor. I know! What’s wrong with them? The more I’ve worked with clients on projects, I’ve learned a little more about why. Time – Peeps, I know you work hard all week, maybe sort the kids out when you get home, eat dinner, hang the washing out…. and then collapse on the sofa (which needs replacing). The last thing you want to do is spend hours online searching for a new one. I get it. Info – If you do have the time… then where do you go? Not everyone spends yonks online finding new hot ass designers, retailers and brands like I do. Of course you don’t. So you stick to the few retailers you know and trust. If you can’t find what you want there, you’re inclined to give up and wait until something you like pops up. Energy – Imagine wanting to update your entire living room… think about all the shops you’d have to go to. Now add into the …

Adios Fireplace

Want to see what happens when a fireplace is ripped out? Do I!!?! Well you’ve come to the right place as that’s what i’m going to show you today. What a coincidence. Fireplaces are ALWAYS the thing that stops a project dead in its tracks. When I hear the words, “I’d like a new fireplace” it fills me with dread. It’s not an easy one to sort. It takes a lot of time. And money. Most people give up and then they don’t move forward at all. Project = stopped. Sherwood Forest Project – Operation “Get that Fireplace Out!” This fireplace was outta here. And the best thing was, there wasn’t anything going back in its place. Apart from a cunning design that comes from inside my head. Project = GO! Day 1. Wooden mantle removed by yours truly. I’m very handy with a screwdriver you know. **Warning** The following poor quality phone camera photos include a shot of builder’s pants.** The surround was loosened away from the wall with a mallet, crowbar and brute …

Introducing Sherwood Forest

I’m currently working on an enormous redesign of a through lounge. It’s going to be a biggie. I’ve named it Sherwood Forest. Scenario: A couple have moved in together. They’ve got too much stuff, differing yet complimentary styles, a four month old baby and severe sleep deprivation. Obv. My job is to bring all of their precious belongings together, including their most precious item, their new baby son and all the gubbins that comes with little people. The room needs to be functional for a family, look amazing, have half as much stuff, whilst looking cohesive. All with a twist of the bonkers. To say my current clients are adventurous in their tastes, is an understatement. One loves mid century, retro pieces and is not afraid of colour AT ALL. The more pop the better. Especially orange pop! And the other describes their taste as “Natural History Museum meets Out of Africa”. Taxidermy, beautiful teals, blues and peacock feathers. Retro bright orange phone. Sitting on an art deco walnut drinks cabinet might I add. Books, salvaged …
