Our trip to MOMA

Located in midtown Manhattan, the Museum of Modern Art was founded in 1929 as an educational institution. Alfred H. Barr, Jr., its founding director always intended the museum to be dedicated to helping people understand and appreciate the visual arts of our time, providing New York with “the greatest museum of modern art in the world.” From an initial gift of eight prints and one drawing, the Museum of Modern Art’s collection has grown to include over 150,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, architectural models and drawings, and design objects. Nearly 90 years later its rich and varied collection has established itself as one of the most comprehensive and wide-ranging views into modern art. I just wanted to share with you some of my favourites; some from “famous masters”, some from names you’ll recognise and others from artists i’ve only just been introduced to myself. I hope you enjoy. Unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to take photos inside the Bruce Conner exhibition, but you can read and see more about it here. Absolutely mesmerised by Munch. As was another …

Gild Hall

I wasn’t planning on writing a post about our honeymoon. I mean, it’s not really any of your business now is it? But I couldn’t not go on a little bit about how deliciously handsome our hotel was. Especially seeing as I have more photos of the hotel than anything else. Gild Hall “Amid the iconic gold and brass of Wall Street NYC, you’ll find leather and bone of an Aspen country house, by star designer Jim Walrod.” Not only named after its location on Gold Street within the Financial District of Manhattan, Gild Hall opened just before the financial bubble burst on Wall Street which is only a few blocks away. Gild Hall is located in a tall brick building formerly occupied by a Holiday Inn. Not that you’d ever guess when entering the two-story reception. You’re immediately hit with some gasp-worthy design, including an antler chandelier, animal hide rugs, mid-century leather furniture and dark wooden walls lined with vintage photography and books galore. Checking in. Checking subway updates. A reflection into the lobby. And my husbandado waiting patiently whilst i’m faffing about with …

Evermade

This week has been a bit pants. My three year old came down with chicken pox on Monday (booo). So I’ve been indoors and on calamine duties all week, trying my best to fit in design work, book tradespeople, reschedule appointments and keep up with the blog. #Stressed! Something that did put a smile on my face however, was a delivery from Evermade. I had been eagerly awaiting its arrival and it popped through my letterbox on Tuesday: Day 2 of “The Pox”. Evermade is an independent online store with an ever expanding collection of carefully curated items; contemporary art prints, cool stationery, gifts, clothing and illustrated goods. I dare you to go on there and not find something you like. Evermade very kindly offered to send me some goodies to review and, like a kid in a sweet shop, I spent hours on their site ogling every piece of art. As you may already know, art is something that takes up a lot of my wall-space. And head-space. I love finding new artists, and find I did. …

Free Photography Printables #loveyourwalls

I’m so excited for today’s post. Not only did I get nominated for an IBA… my blog finally gets its own proper address AND a sexy new look to boot. You like? I’ve had to have a nice sit down and a scone to get over the excitement! But that’s not all. I’ve got something for you that I think you are going to love nearly as much as me. Some amazing FREE PRINTABLES. Get ready to want a gallery wall immediately. Mine is already under construction. My good friend and amazing “SHOULD BE!” photographer, Martyn Day took these on his recent trip to NY.  I cheekily asked him if I could a) have all the files and b) post them for you to print, frame and hang. For FREE! I gave him my best smiley emoticon and BOOM. Done deal. If you love brutalist style architecture, concrete, warehouse spaces, industrial buildings, raw materials and monochrome… these bad boys are for you. Part I. I gasped at this one. Did you hear me? Stunning. Ok, a little “information …
