My concrete wall

As you may remember, I’m currently running a project involving magnetic plaster. The decorating, design and finishing for that project begins tomorrow, yes on a Bank Holiday. That’s what you call commitment.  Thistle Magnetic Plaster, by British Gypsum’s “Rooms Made For You” I mentioned in that latest post how much I LOVED the colour of this magnetic plaster when dried. A most gorgeous concrete colour with subtle detail and organic nuances in tone. I also mentioned I was going to have one of these magnetic, concrete coloured walls of my very own. My exact words; “It shall be MINE.”  I wasn’t lying. I’ve always been drawn to industrial, raw and stripped back design. My dining room wall has been like this for years. I stripped the wallpaper right off, seven months pregnant, a week after moving in… and left it. Much to everyone’s confusion. Now you can easily pick up effect wallpapers that mimic this exact look, I wrote a post about that over here last year. Anyway, back to the magnetic wall…. What I didn’t mention …

Wallpaper Overdose

You guys gotta help me. I’ve been in a serious wallpaper haze for the past week. I’m totally binged out on pattern, design, graphics, colour, texture…. My OH is about two more times away of being asked “What do you think of this one?” from punching me in the eye. Just to catch you up, in my last post, I gave you a lil’ tour of Making Spaces, HQ. The feedback was pretty awesome. And unexpected. Made me super smiley, so thank you very much indeed. This is the offending wall. It needs help. And i’ll tell you for why…. Our Heal’s Club sofa is quite possibly the most comfortable sofa ever. And huge. It can fit two people lying down with ease. But it’s also a big soft, velvety chocolate blob that does not photograph well. This is how the room looked last summer, in a shoot for HomeStyle Magazine. This is the equivalent of my sofa’s school photo. Standing straight, on its best behaviour, with nicely combed hair. Lots has changed in the room since then. …

Midtown Magic Bedroom – Final Reveal

About three months ago I started redesigning our bedroom from scratch. Everything was going, apart from a chair, a light fitting and a rug. There was nothing wrong with the room, I just never really liked it. Bit boring for me and i’ve been wanting to do something more bold for ages. If you’ve been following the bedroom saga, you might have heard me mention one or two times that we couldn’t find a bed. For ages. Then we did. One from Maisons Du  Monde, a French company. One which we had to wait for nine weeks for it to be made and shipped across the English Channel. During which time we slept on the floor and counted down the nights until we could climb back into a bed, rather than roll onto a mattress. After some faffing with the shipping company who changed the delivery slot three times in two days, the bed and bedside table finally arrived and were delivered to my bedroom by two polite French men. To say I was excited is …

Making Spaces in Print

It’s just a quickie today, mainly because i’ve been up since 5am thanks to my beloved child and i’ve got so much design work on right now. But I do have something to share with you, I thought you might like to see…. Would you like a proper nosey around my home?? AND see me standing (slightly awkwardly) holding a mug? You do?? Well you’re in luck. My home and I were featured in Home Style Magazine in last month’s October edition. I know it’s October now, they all do that confusing thing where they publish in the future.  So now it’s nearly time for the November issue, i’ve got my greedy paws on my eight page feature to share you. Don’t be shy. Get reading! My very first proper photo shoot. Such a fun day. And there is more to come which I can’t say too much about right now. I hope you enjoyed your snoop! Have a lovely weekend peeps. All photos by Olly Gordon for Home Style Magazine
