Homebuilding & Renovating – Do you need an interior designer?

So, do you? It’s a good question isn’t it? And one i’ve discussed a kabillion times on here before. But I wanted to show you a recent article from Homebuilding & Renovating magazine’s June edition where myself and the “work-wife”, Fiona Duke (from Fiona Duke Interiors) are asked this very question. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Homebuilding & Renovating (@myhomebuilding) Now, because like everything me and Ms Duke does, with regards to our job, career, dare I even say, calling, we always give 100%, and answering the questions in this article was no different. Interior Design Collective - Design Surgery Workshop

IDC Design Surgery #designupnorth

It’s just a quickie today peeps! I’ve been writing up another (third on the bounce) final reveal post, for the Copper Bedroom (like busses they are), but i’ve had to interrupt that public service broadcast with some very exciting news: The very first IDC Design Surgery has now been confirmed!! We’re sooo excited. And true to my word, I have fought hard to host the very first of these IDC workshops up north, here in my beloved Yorkshire. These consultation style workshops are the first of their kind, as the content is planned around you and your own home projects. You tell us what you want to learn and we deliver. And when I say we, I mean me and my partner in crime and other half of the IDC dream team, Fiona Duke. There are only 10 places per workshop, we capped it at 10 as we want to be able to talk to each and every one of you and work through your home design dilemmas, so you leave feeling armed to deal …

Interior Design Collective Workshops

The IDC Design Surgery

They’re coming, they’re coming!! And i’m so excited, can you tell?? I’ve been doing this dance down my hallway in my purple lycra and white sneaks. Interior design workshops are something i’ve been planning for AGES. Like, a LONG time. And now, finally with the support of the Interior Design Collective, they’re actually gonna happen. I can’t flipping wait! Yee-ha! I know there are lots of Interiors-y workshops out there at the moment already, but we’re tapping into a bit of the market I don’t think’s been catered for right now. A lot of you are just about to undertake large house projects, period renovations, bathroom/kitchen refurbs, and more than ever, people are trying to do most of the work themselves, to save money. Makes sense! But wouldn’t you like a bit of advice? Advice on where to start? Which bits to do first. How to nail a layout. Where to put the radiators. What lighting does a room need for example. If that sounds like you, read on… The IDC Design Surgery is a four …

The Interior Design Collective – Launches Today

I’m not going to lie. I can’t concentrate on anything today, it’s ALL about the Interior Design Collective’s official website launch. Everything else, like actual work (and self-care) has to take a back seat. https://www.instagram.com/p/BYXl-T4jRhg/?taken-by=interiordesigncollective Official Launch – 29.08.17 – That’s TODAY! You may remember I introduced the Interior Design Collective on the blog a few weeks ago, if you’d like to read more about why and what it is, click here for a catch up. But in a nutshell, this: “The IDC celebrates and connects like minded designers so we, as a collective can offer great design services across the UK.  Accessible, client-led interior design has never been in greater demand, but finding the right person for you and your home is not an easy task…. breaking down the myths about interior design, even more so. We are trying to change that.” As well as showcasing the work of our amazing designers, the Interior Design Collective offers a private online platform which provides a positive and effective form of communication for our freelance community. Because …

Interior Design Collective

I know. It’s been a week since I last posted. And i’m sorry. I think it’s fair to say my head has been well and truly buzzing this week with the amount going on at Making Spaces HQ. Not only have I got a new chunky project on the go (more on that soon), i’ve also launched the Interior Design Collective with the very lovely, and ridiculously talented, Fiona Duke from Fiona Duke Interiors. Say hi to Fiona everyone **waves** So here’s what’s been going on in the background for the last few months…. Fiona and I have been chatting about developing a network of specially selected, freelance Interior Design Creatives. Because, something like this is very much needed right now, and i’ll tell you for why. Interiors is the new fashion for the 30-50 something crowd. Staying in is the new going out. Our homes and surroundings are what we’re spending more of our disposable income these days. And with social media platforms like Instagram, people are sharing their surroundings left right and centre and …
