Cecil Armchair Made.com

Meet Cecil (and Obie)

I’ve had a few new deliveries over the past few months courtesy of MADE, the last being a bit of a biggie, so thought i’d share some piccies with you, because i’m nice like that. “Meet Cecil. A sophisticated armchair in a stylish mid-century shape designed for a contemporary home.” Cecil caught my eye a couple of months ago. It’s such an iconic shape, with those tufted buttons and visible solid oak frame. Not to mention the plush velvet hues and soft leathers on offer. I literally had no room for this chair anywhere at home, but I needed some of that grass green velvet in my life. You might remember me writing about Pantone’s colour of the year; Greenery a few months ago. Isn’t Cecil a dreamboat?! Now, green isn’t a colour I would have necessarily chosen for this room, given that it’s teal (not blue as the pictures might suggest), but the green doesn’t half pop off those walls. I rather like it. Our bedroom already had a few MADE pieces in there including …

Vintage Home Show #designupnorth

I’ve just got back from the Vintage Home Show at Pudsey Civic Hall, in Leeds. And i’m still buzzing. A design lover’s dream event. This was my smile BEFORE I got there… imagine how big it was after i’d got back!! The Vintage Home Show is a Discover Vintage event, which was founded by fellow Leeds-ite Keeley Harris in 2009. Since then she’s been organising vintage events across the UK. The Vintage Home Show was launched in 2012 in Manchester and the Leeds show is the first time the event has been held in Yorkshire. Keeley herself has been dealing in the world of vintage since the age of 15 and is now well-known  in the field, having shared her expertise on TV and in the National Press. Her current book “Style Me Vintage Home” was launched in March this year. “This event is all about the 1950’s-1970’s with bright colours and bold patterns as well as teak furniture and funky chairs and if you love bright orange, you’ll be right at home” And I totally was at home. Hyperventilating in …

Mid Century Score

Today has been a bit of a mixed bag. I found out I didn’t make it to the shortlisted stages in the Amara Interior Blog Awards this morn. 🙁 I wasn’t really surprised as i’ve only been blogging for six months or so, so to be nominated at all was an achievement indeed. But admittedly I was a bit bummed out. So to cheer myself up, I ate some chocolate and decided to have a drive out and hunt down some bedroom furniture for a project i’m working on. Retail therapy in other words. Only three miles from home, I quickly indicated right and parked after spotting a few chest of drawers outside a house clearance business in North Leeds. Let’s have a look-see then. Hmmm… Yeah I like those. Battered step ladder come stool. Perfect for industrial style interiors. Yep. Mid century chest of drawers that would look pretty cute after a good sanding to get rid of all that orange. But they were a little boxy for me and i’m looking for something with legs …

MADE.COM Goes Massive – #designupnorth Part I

WARNING. THIS POST CONTAINS SERIOUS DESIGN EYE CANDY. MAY CAUSE FAINTING, SHORTNESS OF BREATH OR SPONTANEOUS ONLINE PURCHASING. One of my favourite, feel good places to shop, find design inspiration and generally waste a bit of time is at Made.com. Their last five year existence has changed the way I find and shop for furniture and home decor. And my expectations too. Their business model, whilst initially having some teething problems in its start up period; long lead times, problems with couriers not delivering and customers perhaps not quite understanding the process, has now found its feet. And they are standing firm and fast on those feet, in very big shoes indeed. MADE’s online presence has grown enormously and rapidly, followed by the move to open two showrooms. One in Soho, London’s West End in 2012 and one up in my beloved West Yorkshire at the end of 2013. Lucky me! MADE are now set to open a third showroom very soon in Liverpool serving the Northwest contingent. This offline presence has no doubt worked wonders …

Take a seat

House Doctor The numbers of times i’ve wanted to stay in a particular hotel or holiday apartment, or eat in a certain restaurant, JUST because of the chair i’ve seen there, i’ve lost count. Pictures of chairs, taken at the right angle… Float. My. Boat. I’m not going to do much chatting today. It’s just beautiful images of chairs that make me want to slide my hand down the arm, have a little perch and take a few selfies. I hope you enjoy….
