At Home With… Making Spaces

It’s been another big week here at Making Spaces HQ. And my last one before I have a week off work. A week off! It’ll be the first one i’ve had in nearly 18 months. I so need it. In fact our little family of three does. We’re off to Centerparcs for some much needed downtime from all things digital, breath in some fresh air and take some time to make memories with the fam. I couldn’t not share this with you guys though… i’m currently featured on Houzz UK as part of their “At Home With…” series. And i’m actually pretty proud of myself right now. There’s a great interview over there with yours truly (which actually makes me sound like a nice person, who’d a thought!?) You can have a proper nosey around my home, all with a chance to win a lovely silk cushion from one of my fave places to shop. Silk cushion from The Other Duckling I’ve actually had tears in my eyes from reading some of the comments on the …

Making Spaces Curates for Wayfair

It’s Monday morning, it’s freezing and i’m still in my PJ’s but i’m so excited about this week. And that’s because starting from right now, for the next seven days, Wayfair are having a sale, Making Spaces stylee. I’ve curated a selection of some rather splendid items, really picking up on the Making Spaces vibe. I’d have these any of these pieces at home or use them for my design projects in a heartbeat. In fact I already have. Let me show you just a small selection of what delights are in store for you right now.     You’ll spot the obligatory skulls, stripped back industrial pieces, warm copper and brass metallics. Mix that in with a vintage vibe, lots of lovely layers with skins and faux furs and classic leather seating. Don’t forget to add a few bits of quirk (Pineapple lamp anyone?) and you’ve nailed the look.     To find out more about me, Making Spaces and how I got here, step this way to read a rather fab guest interview on Wayfair. …

2015 – The Best Bits

This will be my very last post for 2015 peeps. And what a year it’s been for Making Spaces. Almost too much to write about in just one blog post, most of which I could never have expected. At all. It’s all a bit surreal to be honest, in the best of ways. This time last year, I spotted this candle. Bought it, read it every day and let it burn over New Year’s eve. It made me move. Move forward. Do what i’d dreamt about doing. I had no idea if it was pure fantasy, but 2015 was the year I was going to bloody well find out. 2015 End of Year Report I’ve: Designed and built my website. Set up Making Spaces – Ramblings. Written 92 posts (About 55,000 words). Styled, photographed and edited over 1000 photos. Completed seven interior design projects. Completed nine DIY projects. Appeared in Sunday Times Home section, Ikea Hackers, Homestyle MagazineHomestyle Magazine, twice. Written for the Metro and DIY Lifestyle Magazine. Been nominated for an Amara Interior Blog Award. Been featured …

One Year Later

When I was little, I used to dream about going into people’s homes and sorting, reorganising and moving things around in order to make them look and feel better. I flippin loved those dreams and always woke up feeling excited after i’d had them. **knock knock** “Is Karen coming out to play?” “Kaz! Do you want to go and play out? Your friends are here…” “No, i’m making a coffee table from an old washing powder box and a bit of old wallpaper left from my bedroom walls.” or “Not now, i’m just organising all of my teddy bears. In height order.” True stories. Along with many others of a similar vein. Me on the left in Disrupted Context choreographed by Wayne McGregor at NSCD. It was about a year ago, September, 2014, I finally decided I wanted to move into interiors. After taking a couple of years off work to have a baby and readjust to the reality of being a mum (losing my mind with a poorly baby, hallucinations, serious PND, medication, relationship at breaking …
