The Harrogate Project – Ground Floor Progress

Harrogate Project

I took a trip over to see my Harrogate project last week. I was so excited to see the progress that I posted a pic on Instagram before it even made it onto the blog.

The space has officially been transformed thanks to this rather spectacular glazing. Remember it’s on two floors? Running up from this kitchen/diner up to the master bedroom suite:

A bit of the master suite on the floor above

It’s actually an industrial glazing system that you’d usually find in offices. My clients had originally looked into residential glazing options, but due to the height & scale of the glass, they ended up going with an industrial curtain walling system in black aluminium. Looks fab doesn’t it!? Ok, back downstairs for today…

Ignore that light – it’s not staying

This is where there’ll be a sofa and TV and a bit of fancy paint work. I know those walls looks lovely as they are, but the chances of getting these guys to leave a room quite so neutral is slim to absolutely no chance.

Again – ignore that light

Here, i’m standing where the dining table and chairs will soon be (not a scaffold tower) and if I turn 90 degrees to my right, here’s what’s in front of me now….

The kitchen!

I had no involvement in the kitchen specification, my clients always knew they wanted a matt, black kitchen with brass handles. That was a given. They finally opted for a Hacker Systemat, a rigid/pre-built range in matt black with anthracite interior carcass. The kitchen units were supplied by a local kitchen company, Interiors of Harrogate. I did manage to get my tuppence worth in there though, with some of the finer details; appliances, tap, lighting, shelving, hardware and of course what material to use on the back wall….

Mock up V’s Actual room

Here’s the man of the house removing a protective film from the fancy light over the peninsular. He does have a face, but I thought i’d keep him anonymous to prevent OK Magazine from running some kind of story on him and his new kitchen. Here’s a picture of the light, close up, sans tape…

Concrete and Brass Pendant Light by GANTlights

It catches the light beautifully and looks absolutely resplendent against the OSB wall, adding a touch of industrial luxe to this side of the room. And don’t worry, the extractor is built into the hob, so no big ole clumsy hood blocking out the view of those windows.

Black Keyla worktop – Dekton’s Natural Range

The Dektop worktop has a warm, almost brown veining that runs throughout which looks very cool and adds a softness and interest to what could have been a flat, overpowering sized worktop. My clients used Signature Worktops in Wetherby for the template, supply and fit, saving A LOT of ££ off the RRP.

The open storage at the back of the kitchen is from Stovold & Pogue. If you’ve not seen their super cool plate racks and shelving, then pop on over to their site immediately! Their range is all handmade in India and comes in Stainless Steel, powder coated white or anthracite. We put in a special order for these to be finished in black and don’t they look swell. The trend for open storage is a big one for sure. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but for those of you that are constantly eyeing up artisan crockery and beautiful storage jars, open shelving or racks is the way forward.

Chunky Skyscraper Knurled Handles in brass from Downsing & Reynolds

I think these handles have been on my client’s wish-list for the past two years. So to see them finally in situ is a little surreal to be honest.

It’s so very nearly finished in this photo, since this pic was taken (last Friday) I have it on good authority that this kitchen is now fit for cooking and cleaning. After five months of washing dishes in the upstairs WC sink, they now have a functioning tap and DISHWASHER. Heavenly!

One more pic for you today, just to give you a sense of the scale of this project and why things have taken quite as long as they have….

So then, i’d love to hear your thoughts on how it’s looking. I think the next time this project features on these pages it will be the final reveal post. Can’t. Bloomin. Wait.

I don’t know what I like the most – those huge double height windows or the Indian storage racks! It all looks amazing, look forward to seeing the final pics.

A really striking design- I love the glazing! Are the two long windows behind the kitchen aluminium sash windows? I’d love to know the supplier 🙂

  3. Looks amazing – what hob did they go for? I’m looking at downdraft hobs at the moment so this is perfect timing!!

  4. This is just fabulous! I’ll be coming back to this post and any follow-ups again and again. It has so many elements that I had already pictured for our kitchen extension. The hob/extractor is an essential for us as we have open gables and we’d need a bloody tall extractor extension in the middle of the room!

Bravo! Especially for that OSB wall (shan’t be able to get that past the committee here ;-))

  5. This is so fantastic, love the glazing and the minimalism x (plus going to get one of those racks asap)
