The Upper Brook Street Bedroom – Pre-Reveal

Cast Iron Fireplace

I can’t actually speak right now. I drove over to my Upper Brook Street project this morning, first time i’ve seen it since it’s been wallpapered. I always knew it was going to be a special room, but I never quite expected it to look this good.

After measuring up for some final pieces, I was given free reign to start styling the space and take some pics. I’ve just uploaded about 56 photos to my Mac and spent the last hour almost flipping crying (happy tears, don’t worry).

I’m overwhelmed by how this room has turned out so far.  So forgive me, i’m just going to post pictures and some details about what’s from where and then i’m going to go and buy a bottle of something cold and fizzy to celebrate this evening.

Goa Four Poster Bed from Maisons Du Monde

This picture makes me soooo happy.

Upper Brook Street Minuit wallpaper from Little Greene

This room really wouldn’t be the same without it.

Hemnes Bedside Tables from Ikea updated with Brass Drawer Pulls

Futurist Brass Drawer Pulls from Dowsing & Reynolds

Rita Table Lamp in Brass and Black Marble from made.com

All woodwork and period detailing is painted in Little Greene’s Jack Black Oil Based Eggshell. The coral accent in the wallpaper was colour matched at Valspar in a tester pot for £3. It just adds a cheeky pop of coral inside the door frame. Nice.

The original cast iron fireplace looks amazing now framed with all the black detailing with the brightly coloured kniphofia flowers keeping the room from looking dark or depressing. It actually feels really light, airy and full of life in here.

The large Vita Eos Shade from Dowsing & Reynolds looks like a floating cloud hanging from a bespoke porcelain and silver twisted flex pendant fitting.

Dowsing & Reynolds can make up any light fitting, in any finish with any cable colour and length. Just choose your lighting components and place your order. Job done.

Agama hanging rail from La Redoute (now sold out)

This came with little wooden feet which were painted gold to tie in with the rest of the gold and brass detailing around the room. Brass coat hangers from Connox were added for guests to hang their wares. Yes, this is a guest room. Anyone fancy a sleepover?

Another piece from Ikea, the Soknedal mirror. At £85, this was a steal for one that size. And a large Kentia palm that the homeowner is NOT ALLOWED TO KILL BY WATERING IT ALL THE BLOOMIN TIME.

View from the bed. I could get comfy here.

So what’s left to do?

There’s a very small amount of wallpaper to sort still. It’s hard to see online, but the wallpaper fades from a dark grey to a light, silvery grey at the top of the paper. So the offcuts we were planning on using above the tiny sections above the doors (main door and entrance to ensuite) were too light as it was the wrong section of the ombre effect. **sigh**

The homeowners had no choice but to bite the bullet and purchase another roll, just to wallpaper above the two doors. Ouch.

Oh, ignore the cream door, it’s getting replaced, then painted black. With the fun, coral bits inside the door frame.

We’re hoping to bag the Charleston bedspread from made.com to layer up on the bedding….

….. along with some more pillows and some charcoal velvet cushions

On the other side of the room, we’re awaiting, charcoal velvet curtains, two green, velvet Frame, armchairs from made.com and a little side table.

The bay was painted in Little Green’s Shallows, a soft, silvery grey. We also used this colour on the ceiling to continue the fading of the grey wallpaper all the way up to the ceiling. It’s worked really well. You can see best in this pic below:

The room is about 80% finished. Just awaiting curtains, armchairs, bedspread, a side table, more plants and probably some other faffing bits, but I thought you’d enjoy seeing the pre-reveal pics as much as I enjoyed taking them today.

I would love to hear what you guys think of the room so far. Really hope you like what we’ve done to this Edwardian guest room. Can’t wait to get it all finished.

Am off to the shops for some fizz….

Have a great weekend peeps!

Looks amazing. I gasped when I saw the picture of the wallpaper & even though I don’t generally like red tones went to find out about it and mentally banked it. Lucky guests!

  13. Lucinda says

This is amazing . I have been trying to think where to use this paper since I saw it a few months ago. It’s almost too wonderful for a bedroom but I think I might just have to ! Well done you and your clients should be over the moon

  14. Miriam says

This is absolutely beautiful. What is the colour you used for the skirting? I would love this wallpaper in my front room but am wondering if it will work above a dado, or if it needs to be from the ground.

    • Karen Knox says

It’s Jack Black for all the woodwork, Miriam. I don’t think you’d want to cut the design at dado rail height. It definitely needs to be used in a room with minimal furniture in and high ceilings. Picture rail fine, but not convinced about dado i’m afraid 🙁

    • Micha says

Hi Miriam did you try it with a dado rail? I’d like to use the midi version in my hall which has a dado and picture rail and I wonder if it would work as long as all the flowers are below the dado.

  15. WOW! This is amazing! I’ve not felt so strongly about a room for a long time. Thank you for reminding me that it is always worth to take risks. Love the wallpaper!!!

    • Karen Knox says

Thank you! So glad you like it Anne Marie. Final reveal coming very soon!
