Am so excited to share the final reveal of this project with you. I’ve been working closely with the homeowners for the last five months and i’m kind of wow-ed with the final design.
If you’d like to read all about the beginnings then, jump over here for a catch up. Today’s post is all about the final photos and a shopping list for any of you out there that fancy any of these pieces for yourself.
Let’s go.
Before
Here is their large Edwardian front room at the beginning of July this year. These guys had just moved in and were wanting a formal, but statement front room fit for drinks, music and entertaining.
After
And here it is now. It’s just so cosy isn’t it? In fact, after doing my final hour of faffing and half way through me taking photos, I was desperate for a quick cat nap on the sofa in front of that roaring fire. So nice.
Before
Everything in the room was going. Apart from the two made.com Ritchie sofas and the mid century style coffee table. I tried to squeeze a gold and glass coffee table into the budget, but alas, it didn’t make it. But I think we just about pulled it off.
After
We’ve transformed what was an unwelcoming, large and rather bland front room into a sophisticated Drawing Room and we’re all so pleased with the end result.
Now on with the full tour. No talking.
Ssshh.
- Floor Lamp – Ebay
- Geometric Pendant – Nordium (spray painted gold before being fitted)
- Coving & Ceiling Rose – Farrow & Ball Pointing
- Ceiling – Farrow & Ball Matchstick
- Blue and Gold Cushions – H&M
- Mirror – Marks & Spencer
- Brass Pineapple – John Lewis
- Gold Trays – H&M
- Woodwork and radiator – Farrow & Ball Stiffkey Blue
- Yellow Stockholm Cabinet – Ikea
- Vinyl Rack – Tinkered
- Tribe Table Lamp – Marks & Spencer
A lot of people have asked about the gold beading… it’s simply gold metallic paint used to paint around the original rounded edges of plasterwork.
- Black and Glass Console Table – La Redoute
- Mantle Piece Styling – Bits and bobs and random charity shop finds
So there you have it. If there’s anything missing from the shopping list, i’ve either pilfered it from another room in the house or picked it up from a charity shop on one of my hunting afternoons. Anything that doesn’t have a link, means it’s now sold out i’m afraid.
A huge thanks to the homeowners on this project who allowed me to push them a little further than they may have initially wanted to go. Thanks once again for their hard work sanding floors, painting, furniture building, light fitting etc. Yes, these guys (apart from the wallpapering) have done all of the work themselves. More proof that Interior Design is for everyone, even those of you who just want to get on with it yourself. So whilst the room design itself was all in my head, these guys executed it to perfection.
What a difference.
I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts on this project. I know some of you were sceptical about us wallpapering the whole room when I previously wrote about the idea a few months ago. As were the homeowners themselves if you remember. Yes, it’s bold, but they’ve got a room that looks like nobody else’s, whilst simultaneously looking and functioning like a traditional drawing room.
I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys think in the comments below. Hope you like it!!
Hi there. An amazing transformation indeed. Do you also take on projects in London or locally only?
Hi Irini, I can work remotely on the design aspect of projects, having worked with clients in Bristol, London, Warrington, Lake District etc.. just drop me a line at karen@making-spaces.net if you need any more info. Cheers
That looks stunning. Fantastic creative design and ideas making it unique.
Big thanks Sami!x
I think this might be my favourite of all your work. It’s just fab!
Well it’s all that mid-century stuff init!? 🙂
Karen, this is just stunning!! Absolutely stunning!! You are beyond clever. I adore that wallpaper. It’s amazing.
Really? Thank you Rachel. That’s lovely of you to say so x
Wowzers trousers. That wall paper… ♥
I know. It’s amazing isn’t it!
Total room envy. Gorgeous!
Thank you v much 🙂
Hi Karen, this room looks lovely and sumptuous! I especially like the highlighting of the gold beading and the warm contrast of ‘Matchstick’ with the blue of the walls. Alice x
Thanks Alice. Really glad you like it!x
Karen, it looks fabulous, very masculine but cosy. I like the floor lamps, and IKEA cabinet. If only you could have persuaded them to paint the bit between the picture rail and coving in matching blue, personally I think
the beige paint looks a bit odd. However, stunning transformation. Btw is there anything going on the Windows?
Nothing for the windows. These guys hate curtains as much as I do. So that saved us some money right there 🙂 Interesting feedback about above the picture rail. I think there were several ways that, the picture rail and ceiling could have been done. One thing we didn’t want was blue directly against off-white. Too nautical. So Matchstick was used on the ceiling and above the picture rail to tie in with the metallic detailing and add some warmth 🙂
I love it – all of it!
Ace. Thanks Kerry!
Oh Karen, it’s just gorgeous! That wallpaper is everything and it was absolu-freaking-lutely the right choice to use it across all the walls! Love the shots of bold yellow and gold throughout, they work beautifully against the dark blue. Right, so when we going to enjoy some cocktails in front of the fire? The homeowners wouldn’t mind if I crashed, I’m sure!! lol xxx
Haha. You know, it’s just calling out for a bit of Kimberly Duran isn’t it!? I’m sure they’d love to have you hang out there 😉 xx
What a transformation. I’ve enjoyed following this project and love the finished article. Great colours, great style. What also stands out for me is the transformative power of repositioning the furniture, pulling the seating in towards the centre of the room, framed by the (lovely) rug and oriented around the fire. So nice to see a front room not geared around the TV.
Thanks Tom. It is indeed great not to plonk a big black rectangle in a project. I was very lucky to be able to work in this beautiful room!
Absolutely stunning and a fine example of how to use wallpaper too! The girl done good , we love it and thanks for using Cloudberry Living. The owners must be so pleased to have such an amazing space! 🙂
Thank you!! A pleasure to work with you guys. Hope to do it again soon 🙂 x
We will I am sure, we loved it too and want more of this gorgeousness 🙂
S’amazing! Well done I love it XK
Thanks so much, Kate. That really means a lot x
I have to say, I think wallpapering the whole room was the right call – it’s bold but awesome. The gold detail on the corners is perfect, and I think having that band of light paint at the top lifts the room. Such a statement space, and a very good one – the homeowners must be thrilled! x
Thanks Lizzie. That wallpaper is pretty awesome isn’t it!?
What.A.Transformation! I so wish I could escape the mess that is my house and retire here for the evening. Love it!
I feel you. Our house is chaos right now. Driving me insane!
The wallpaper is gorgeous, and the yellow cabinet works beautifully with it. I’m with the person who doesn’t like the beige paint above the picture rail though, it doesn’t go at all. If you couldn’t paper it, white would have been much better and with the styling of the rest of the room was never going to look nautical… it isn’t like you’d decorated with stripes and anchors! Everything else is lovely though, and perhaps the beige paint looks better in real life.
Each to their own. White would have killed this room. It was white before and didn’t work. Cheers for stopping by.
Sorry its taken me so long to catch up. Bloody love it. Nice work you – it’s fabulous, bold and super sophisticated. x
Hey, don’t be daft. December is always a crazy month! Really glad you like it Jill, thank you x
Oh my gosh, Karen, I *love* it. That wallpaper with the gilded beading is just exquisite.
I have just discovered your blog, and oh my I love it! love everything! I have been looking for inspiration (we just bought a house!) and so glad I found you! Do you also do work in London, I’d love to have a chat and get some advice!
Why thank you very much. Am happy that you found me. Yes I do work with clients remotely. Feel free to drop me an email if you want to chat about working together. Thanks again for your lovely comments!
So, my husband and I just bought a house in Philadelphia from 1852, and this room just rocks my world. So very spectacular. I love the wallpaper beyond words and the outside corners throughout our place are wood dowels just like this space. Such a delicious space!
