A design icon – Giveaway with Houseology

**Iconic design klaxon**

I’m constantly learning about all things design through my interiors projects, endless research and writing. When something out there in ‘interior design land’ really resonates with me, I kind of have to share it with you guys. It’s like the law.

Today, it’s the Lampe Gras light.

La Lampe Gras 304

You might not have heard of Bernard-Albin Gras, but you will have certainly seen his lighting before if you’re an interiors lover like moi. In fact i’ve put a little Pinterest board together to show you his designs in action. Take a look.

Gras designed the La Lampe Gras light in 1921, making the design so very nearly 100 years old today. I hope I look as sleek, relevant and desirable when i’m a centenarian. Idolised by interior designers and architects worldwide (and little ole me in Leeds), La Lampe Gras combines a timeless aesthetic with genius engineering making it a much coveted design classic.

I’ve admired these lights from afar for ages, never really thinking I’d actually be able to own one of my very own. Although I have managed to get very close to one in the past…. If you’ve got a keen eye and a good memory, you may remember me using a wall light inspired by the Lampe Gras lights in the Eclectic Living Room project earlier this year.

It’s hard to believe these lamps have been around since 1921 isn’t it? The design is timeless. Ya know, like a Chanel. And finally I get to have and enjoy my own piece of design history. I can’t tell you how excited I am to have a Lampe Gras light fitted in our soon to be new bathroom. (Catch up on all things bathroom here).

bathroom-edit

Thanks to Houseology, our very own Lampe Gras arrived a couple of weeks ago and I was blown away by the quality. Every inch of it feels beautifully solid and purposeful. It’s certainly an investment but something I know will cause me to raise a smile every time I walk into our new bathroom.

Why don’t you take a look at Houseology at the rest of the Lampe Gras designs? In fact, have a good look around the rest of their site as you could be in with a chance of winning a £100 gift card to spend in their online store. Just in time for Christmas too. Yeeha!

All you’ve got to do is leave a comment below letting me know which piece you’d treat yourself to with that £100. Will it be some new lighting, a piece of furniture, some new cosy textiles in time for winter? Maybe you’ll find something much coveted like I did….

After browsing the site for too long (seriously, I’m supposed to be buying gifts for other people today) I’ve decided I’d spend a £100 voucher on either Lene Bjerre chopping boards or put it towards a Skagerak Georg floor mirror. So dreamy…!

  43. Laura Varley says

Better late than never, but this has taken me the best part of tonight and my shopping basket comes to wayyyy over £100…but I would be ever so grateful for the contribution! Now part of me thinks..bugger it, if I want to spend £100 on a Niki Jones concentric cushion (slate please) I will. Having said that though i’ve actually only bought two Christmas presents so far, so the money would probably be best spent on any one of the beautiful Lane Bejerre chopping boards, for my other half/personal chef and a Tom Ford candle for the mother…preferably ‘fire’ – as I’ve often wondered what burning money smells like. Ironic. If I had any money spare I’d treat myself to a Jansen+Co copper and white candle holder cause I’ve had my eye on one for ages! Good luck choosing! Sorry for the essay, if I don’t win then please forward this to Santa ☺ x

  44. melaspurt says

Jeez, I could get lost on there lol I would probably pick the Riviera Maison Sicily Wall Lamp. But you must look at this too, I’ve fallen in love with it totally, I love Art Deco andrew-martin-josephine-cabinet now to find a spare few thousand pounds lol
